After struggling throughout most of the season, the College of Eastern Utah Lady Eagles landed at home for two final home games this season. The ladies looked forward to thrilling the hometown crowd one final time before the season ends, and the ladies did so by defeating Snow College 83-60 on Friday night.
“We worked hard all week to prepare for this game. We were ready and gave Snow everything we had,” explained Eagles head coach Dave Paur.
The ladies began the game strong and found themselves ahead 35-26 by the half. The Eagles simply outplayed the Snow College Badgers, thus leading to the Eagles victory.
CEU found themselves leading the Badgers in every category imaginable. The Eagles shot 40 percent from the field, 36 percent from the three point line, and 66 percent from the free throw line. Snow College barely broke the 50 percent mark in free throw shooting, while nearly making 30 percent of their field goal shots.
One of the biggest inconsistencies for the Eagles this year has been rebounding, however the Eagles soared high against the Badgers in this category with 42 rebounds completed compared to the Badgers 34.
The Eagles stepped up their game to defeat the Badgers. McKell Warburton lead the team in the rally with 18 points. Warburton completed 6-11 three point shots, while pulling down six rebounds, stealing four balls, and handing out one assist.
Megan Valgardson also had a tremendous game with 16 total points and 10 rebounds. Valgardson also managed to push her way through the crowd to block one shot and steal one ball from the visiting Badger team.
Following in scoring was Kasey Mills with 15 points and Rose Hamilton with 10. Not just the offensive game was strong for the Eagles however. Julianne Orgill completed two blocked shots and four steals, while Hamilton blocked one shot and stole one ball to lead to a strong defensive show from the Lady Eagles.
The following night, the Eagles hit the floor to compete against the Dixie State College Rebels from St. George. For many of the Lady Eagles, this would be the last home game played in a CEU jersey.
With the season quickly drawing to an end, the Eagles refuse to give up. Unfortunately, the Rebels outplayed the Eagles and defeated the home team 86-57.
The Saturday night game found the Eagles struggling to complete many shots and pull down rebounds. The Eagles shot only 27 percent from the field while pulling down only 26 total rebounds. The problems that seemed to be solved the previous night appeared once again as the Eagles finished their home stay this season.
Warburton once again lead her team in scoring with 11 points. She also had two steals, one assist, one rebound, and the completion of 3-10 three point shots.
Mills followed Warburton in points with 10, while also completing two steals, 2-6 three point shots, one blocked shot, and four assists.
Rebounding came few and far between for the Eagles, however Valgardson pulled down five. Dawnielle Boudreaux, Chelsea Bolz, and Hamilton each completed four rebounds to help in the team rebounding effort.
“We came to play one game this weekend. I guess we got that done, but two games would have been better,” joked head coach Paur.
Although sophomores Julianne Orgill, McKell Warburton, Leslie Lines, Chelsea Bolz, and Dawnielle Boudreaux played for the last time in front of a BDAC crowd, this will not be the last game for these five players. The team will hit the road this weekend to travel northwest to Oregon to take on the Treasure Valley Chuckers on Friday. The team will then head for Idaho where they will play Southern Idaho College on Saturday.
