Carbon baseball defeated the Providence Hall Patriots 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday at home.
A big reason for the Region 14 win over the Patriots was the no-hitter thrown by senior pitcher Nate Olson.
“He threw a no hitter for us today and pounded the strike zone which is all he needed to do and I am very proud of what he did,” said Carbon Head Coach Jeff Cisneros.
Olson threw all five innings and struck out five batters with no walks.
With Olson throwing well on the mound, the Dinos were able to get a lot of runs at the beginning of the game with ease.
“It makes it easy, we still have his back but when he is getting a lot of strikeouts it just helps go play more offense and hit for him,” said Carbon senior Cody Lowe.
The Dinos opened the game with scoring four runs in the bottom of the first after picking up two outs.
“I was glad that we made some adjustments with two outs and puts some runs up on the board. It is always important to start and put some runs on the board,” said Cisneros.
The Dinos scored one more run in the second inning with two outs when Lowe hit an RBI triple.
Lowe led the Dinos with three hits and three RBIs in three at-bats on Tuesday.
“Cody has been a good hitter since his freshman year. We need him to continue to do that and teams will throw around him so we need guys around him to swing the bat,” said Cisneros.
Senior Zac Bradley also had a good game at the plate with two hits, two runs, two RBIs and a triple.
The Dinos added five more runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach for the Patriots.
Carbon will travel to Herriman on Friday to take on the Patriots for their next game.
Lowe said after the game Tuesday that his team cannot take Providence Hall lightly despite defeating them handily at home.
“We can’t underestimate them and play them like any 4A team we usually play. We just got to play them like they are a good team,” said Lowe.
Tuesday’s win gives the Dinos a 6-4 overall record and their first region win of the season.
Their 6-4 start is the best start under Coach Cisneros and the best 10-game start of a season since 2012.
