Carbon softball defeated the American Leadership Academy Eagles 16-1 on Tuesday at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.
“They were not the best team but we brought it. Our defense was really good and our infield didn’t let anything through,” said Carbon Head Coach Wade Williams.
The Dinos started the game slow and allowed the Eagles to score on back to back doubles to take a 1-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first.
“In the first inning I came out and didn’t really hit my spots but after that I was fine, I warmed up and I knew I had a good defense behind me to get out of the inning quick,” said freshman pitcher Brooke Moosman.
Carbon’s offense would take off in their first time through at the plate by scoring seven runs in the first inning including a solo home run by Kaytlyn Cripps and a grand slam by Moosman.
Moosman also got the start as the pitcher against ALA and pitched a two-hitter in three innings of work.
“She pitched amazing today and I am super proud of her,” said Carbon’s Lyndsey Madrigal
The Dinos would add seven more runs in the second inning with a two-run home run coming from the bat of Makenna Pendergrass with one out.
The game would end in the bottom of the third inning due to the 15-run rule when a Cripps single drove home Jordan West from second. When a team leads by 15 runs after three innings the game ends.
Tuesday’s win gives the Dinos a 5-1 record in region and a 15-3 overall record with two more games to play this week.
Williams said since that he will use the three games in three days schedule to help give more of his players playing experience.
“We have played these guys before, we have played Grand before, we are kind of just rotating girls to give them chances to perform and so far they are doing it,” said Williams.
Carbon will look to extend their six-game winning streak to seven games Wednesday afternoon against Grand County in a non-region game.
