The Emery Spartans traveled to Moab on Friday night where they took on the Grand Red Devils. Both teams were seeking their first win on the young season.
Grand jumped out to an early 28-0 first half lead behind quarterback Dante Wells and receiver Stacy Randall. The two connected for not one, but two long touchdown passes in the half, a 55-yarder and a 40-yarder.
Down 28-0, Emery got on the board with a four-yard touchdown pass from Kyson Stilson to Jax Madison.
Grand took away any momentum Emery had going into the half by scoring on a 9-yard touchdown run from Corbin Arbon with 13 seconds left in the half.
Grand put the game away with a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown by Trent Elmore.
Emery would put 10 more points on the board with a 23-yard touchdown run by Kyson Stilson and a 22-yard field goal from Brock Winter.
Final score: Emery 17, Grand 42.
The Spartans will travel to 2-0 Payson Lions this Friday night.
