Carbon students awarded $5,000 in Gear Up scholarships

On May 18, Gear Up hosted its 2nd annual recognition banquet in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on the campus of Utah State University Eastern.
More than two dozen students were recognized for achievement in the program, designed to ensure low-income students are prepared for graduation from high school.
This program allows students from 9th to 12th grade to engage in multiple college prep programs and other continuing education initiatives. The goal is to motivate students to be focused on excelling in class.
Carbon County is Gear Up’s 9th region.  Trenton Willson is Carbon High’s Gear Up advisor. He works alongside Zachary Bradley, Kelsey Manual, Tyse Aguayo, Oscar Herrera, Serena Tucker.
At Emery High School, Nellie Lee is the advisor. She works alongside Ashlynn Hilliard, Amanda Johansen. Destiny Tucker, Kendra Shore, Jeffrey Boyer,, and Amanda Peterson.
Green River High School’s Jacob cox, Prisma Mendez- Herrera, and Maribel Escalante-Mendoza advise the program there.
Jessica Tucker is the Gear Up advisor at Lighthouse High School. She works with Danyle Martinez, Carmen Villalba, Morgan Saindon, and Ashton Peirce.
Pinnacle Canyon Academy has Chanel Richardson, Brandy Hanes, Nikki Borba,  and Kayleigh Thomas.
