The Carbon High baseball team hosted their annual clinic on Wednesday at their stadium in Helper.
Over 50 little leaguers, ages 8-12, came to the ballpark in the rain and sloppy weather to learn skills and drills from the Carbon baseball team.
There were multiple stations across the diamond including batting practice at home plate, infield practice, stretching, batting cages and hitting off a tee.
“I think the whole idea is to get kids to see the older kids and have that ambition to want to have that drive to be what they are and see how they do it,” said Carbon Cal Ripken Little League President Shane Henrie.
For the high school players it was a way to fundraise money for their program while helping the community and future players that aspire to be on the team in high school.
Carbon infielder Ty Anderson grew up coming to the clinic and enjoyed spending time being the one who the younger kids now look up to.
“It is pretty cool, I did come here and learned a lot from the older guys when they were here and looked up to them,” said Anderson. “I like it and I like to help these kids knowing they are the next Carbon.”
Henrie said that the clinic has helped the little league program in Carbon county continue to be successful and have increasing numbers each year.
“We have had great numbers in the little program and our objective is to get it bigger and bigger each year,” said Henrie.
Carbon county has one of the most consistent travel and all star little league teams in the state. Henrie said on Wednesday that his teams have been to numerous regional tournaments across the west coast over the years.
Carbon varsity baseball will have their region opener next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Helper against Providence Hall.
The Dinos are currently 3-3 overall and will head to Blanding this weekend for a non-region tournament.
