Carbon baseball picked up a pair of wins in Southern Utah this weekend on Friday
On Friday, the Dinos dominated San Juan 15-1 in three innings in Blanding.
Junior Ty Anderson led the Dinos with four hits and three RBIs in five at-bats.
“He is our lead off guy and has been doing a good job all year long,” said Carbon Head Coach Jeff Cisneros.
Senior pitcher Cody Lowe only allowed one earn run, three hits and had six strikeouts pitching for the Dinos. He did damage batting at the plate with a triple that scored three runners.
“He pitched well and that is what we need from him, we need strike outs and not a lot of walks,” said Cisneros.
The next day the Dinos played two games in Moab beginning with a 4-2 win against Summit Academy.
Carbon didn’t allow a run until the seventh inning thanks to a dominating pitching outing by senior Triton Abeyta.
“It was his best outing so far and we are trying to get him back because he missed last year with an injury,” said Cisneros.
Abeyta got the win while pitching six innings and only allowing two hits and no runs.
At the plate against Summit Academy, Lowe led the Dinos with three hits, two RBIs, and a double.
In the second game of the day the Dinos fell to the top ranked 3A team Grand County 2-1.
“It was a good ball game, a pitcher’s game and their pitcher was a good pitcher, he was their ace. Neither team really hit the ball really well and we couldn’t muster up some runs when we had opportunities,” said Cisneros.
Grand County held the Dinos to only five hits while striking out 10 batters at the plate. The Dinos didn’t score until the top of the seventh inning.
The Dinos now have a 5-4 overall record heading into their first week of conference games.
Tuesday the Dinos will host Providence Hall at 3 p.m. in Helper.
On Thursday, they will travel to Providence Hall to take on the Patriots.
These two games this week is the first ever games between the two schools. Providence Hall recently came up to the 3A classification after being 2A for a number of years.
