To Whom it may concern,
I am a student at Utah State University and have been following HB:132 as part of my class on legislation. This bill is amending and clarifying things from last year’s legislation that had a major impact on the school system and the juvenile court. This legislation in its current form is opening the door to possibly having some of the charges now prohibited by last year’s House bill put back under the court’s jurisdiction after going through a tiered response from the schools.
I would like to hear how things are working in the schools under the law from last year and what, if any changes, are felt to be necessary to address issues and unintended consequences from last year’s House bill. Informally, the feedback is that last year’s bill has created chaos and that adjustments are needed.
