Sam Falsone

Price-Sam Falsone, age 93, passed away Thursday, March 1st, 2018, at his home in Price, Utah. Sam was loved by all who knew him. His story telling was legendary & everyone loved having coffee & a “bull session” with him. It was a truly beautiful thing, having breakfast with him at the Balanced Rock Eatery – he loved their pancakes and visiting with everyone who stopped by to say hello to him!
Sam was born, April 13th, 1924 in Price, Utah to Dominic Falsone & Rose Blanda Falsone. He was the youngest of their 9 children. One of the many stories he told involved milking 700 goats, twice a day, with his siblings, to make ricotta cheese that his dad would sell in the mining towns of Carbon County.
Sam graduated from Carbon High.  In the fall of 1943, he joined the service & was inducted into the United States Army at Fort Douglas, Utah. He was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands with the 33rd Infantry Division – assigned to a Heavy Weapons Platoon. Shortly after, he deployed with his unit to New Guinea, Morotai & Luzon in the Philippines. After the surrender, he was sent with the Occupational Forces to Japan. He returned home in January of 1946 – having been promoted to SGT. Sam & his fellow American Soldiers were all part of the Greatest Generation – true heroes.
On December 1, 1951, Sam married the love of his life – Lorraine Hill Falsone – at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Helper, Utah. Sam & Lorraine were examples to everyone on what a marriage is all about – love, partnership, loyalty, with a great sense of humor thrown in! They were each other’s biggest fans!
In his younger years, Sam enjoyed exploring all over South Eastern Utah – looking for Uranium in Moab to hunting for deer in the Bookcliffs. Sam worked at the coal mine in Hiawatha – on the tipple. He left the mine to begin a career as a carpenter & retired at 62. The “second” part of Sam’s life was spent at his farm in Carbonville – raising horses & at times cows – along with 11 acres of hay.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Falsone and his daughter, Lori Falsone Laws.
He is survived by his son, Sam (Petrine), son-in-law Billy Laws, his grand children & great grand children, nieces & nephews.
We would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Glenn Etzel who Dad had the greatest respect and trust for. Along with the Home Health Professionals at Symbii, who truly loved & cared for dad over the past 2 months – Dianne, his angel like nurse, along with Dave, his PT with a great sense of humor & Bonnie, his full of life aid.
Everyone feels a “hole” in their hearts, as we have lost this truly wise & wonderful man. He would say to all of us – “put your best foot forward & always do the best you can.”
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main, Price, Utah 84501. Family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to services.  Interment  Price City Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome to share memories of Sam at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Utah Honor Flight, P.O. Box 42, Richfield, UT 84701, www.utahhonorflight.org, remembering Sam and those he served with.
