Trump and Romney: The strangest of political bedfellows

Mitt Romney is a hypocrite. He has called Donald Trump so many names there is no way to list them all. But, he did an about-face after Donald Trump tweeted his support for Romney’s decision to run for the United States Senate. He is now saying the disagreement with Trump is in the past and they stand for the same principles.
Differences, my sweet patootie! Romney campaigned against Donald Trump, calling him unfit for office,
We’re getting rid of one narcissistic rich guy. We don’t need another to replace him.
Trump, once called Romney “the dumbest and worst candidate in history.”
This is what Trump said after Romney’s Senate announement: “Mitt Romney has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah. He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to Orrin Hatch, and has my full support and endorsement!”
Romney responded, “Thank you Mr. President for the support. I hope that over the course of the campaign I also earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah.”
Mr. Romney, you will not earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah. People in Utah will see you for what you are, nothing but a rich carpetbagger.
Why doesn’t Romney just run in Massachusetts? Are people in Utah more gullible than in Massachusetts? Yes, Romney has a house in Holladay and used to own one in Park City, but I’m pretty sure it’s just one of six.
He has bought and sold so many houses, it’s impossible to keep up. My research shows he owns a house in La Jolla, CA, one in New Hampshire, plus the one in Holladay. There are no doubt others.
Romney and Trump engaged in a nasty exchange in 2016 when Donald Trump was seeking the Republican nomination for president.
Romney called Trump unfit for office. During a 20-minute tirade on March 3, 2016 at the Hinckley Institute of Politics, Romney urged citizens across the country to use tactical voting in the remaining primaries and caucuses to maximize the chance of denying Trump a delegate majority.
This is some of what he said:
“What he (Trump) said on ’60 Minutes’ about Syria and ISIS has to go down as the most ridiculous and dangerous idea of the campaign season: Let ISIS take out Assad, he said, and then we can pick up the remnants. Think about that: Let the most dangerous terror organization the world has ever known take over a country?         This is recklessness in the extreme.
“Donald Trump tells us that he is very, very smart. I’m afraid that when it comes to foreign policy he is very, very not smart.
“I am far from the first to conclude that Donald Trump lacks the temperament to be president. After all, this is an individual who mocked a disabled reporter, who attributed a reporter’s questions to her menstrual cycle, who mocked a brilliant rival who happened to be a woman due to her appearance, who bragged about his marital affairs, and who laced his public speeches with vulgarity.
“Donald Trump says he admires Vladimir Putin, while has called George W. Bush a liar. That is a twisted example of evil trumping good.
“There is dark irony in his boasts of his sexual exploits during the Vietnam War while John McCain, whom he has mocked, was imprisoned and tortured.
“Dishonesty is Trump’s hallmark: He claimed that he had spoken clearly and boldly against going into Iraq. Wrong, he spoke in favor of invading Iraq. He said he saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrating 9/11. Wrong, he saw no such thing. He imagined it. His is not the temperament of a stable, thoughtful leader. His imagination must not be married to real power.”
(Writer’s note: Although this is only part of Romney’s speech, it is not taken out of context and is representative of exactly what Romney said and meant.)
That is not a diffence of opinion. This is a man on a mission to deny a person he considers unfit to be president of the United States.
His mission to deny Trump’s bid for the Republican nomination failed and Utah even sent their delegates to Washington to vote for Trump.
Now Romney wants you to forget all that and send him to Congress so he can support the president’s agenda.
Message to Mitt Romney:     Trust me. (Isn’t that what Trump would say?) I’m just saying what many Utahns are thinking. We will not forget.
We do not need another carpethagger representing us. Go home.
