The Utah Youth Symphony and Utah Youth Philharmonic orchestras will be perform in Helper on April 14 at the Rio Theatre.
The Helper Project is presenting the concert, which is sponsored by Zions Bank.
As Utah’s first youth symphony, founded in 1957, the orchestras have nurtured thousands of talented musicians ages 12-21 with coaching and development by the area’s finest professional conductors and musicians.
The orchestras are conducted by Barbara Ann Scowcroft, who has been the music director and conductor since 1986. She served as the music director and conductor of the World Youth Orchestra during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
She has played in the first violin section of the Utah Symphony since 1982. She is also an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Utah and holds the distinction of being the first woman conductor of the Salt Lake Symphony.
Anne Morgan-Jespersen, board chair of The Helper Project says, “We are extremely fortunate to have these outstanding talents performing in Helper. We are also grateful to Zions Bank for underwriting the event. Zions Bank has been extremely supportive of The Helper Project’s mission of fostering the revitalization, beautification and cultural enhancement of Helper City.”
Admission is free. Tickets became available March 29 at the new Helper City offices (the old Wells Fargo Bank Building) and at Zions Bank in Price.
Seating is limited, so organizers urge people interested in attending to get tickets as early as possible.
