Dinos extend winning streak to five games

    Carbon Baseball picked up a 12-0 in Delta on Friday to remain undefeated in Region 14 play.
    After edging Delta with a 11-10 win on Tuesday and defeating Providence Hall on 13-5 on Wednesday, the Dinos kept the winning rolling on Friday to extend their winning streak to five games.
    The Dinos started the game slow against Delta in the first two innings but used a huge third inning to help put the Rabbits away.
    Carbon scored nine runs in the top of the third inning off of seven hits from seven different players.
    “The first time through on the Delta pitcher our timing was off and we missed some balls,” said Carbon Head Coach Jeff Cisneros. “We talked about it before the third inning and made adjustments, I was really happy with the adjustments they made in that inning.”
    The Dinos would add three more runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-0 lead heading into the final inning.
    Senior pitcher Cody Lowe pitched an impressive five-inning, one-hit shutout on Friday. Lowe had five strikeouts and only allowed one walk.
    “We played really good defense behind him but that is the type of performance we need from our pitchers every day,” said Cisneros.
    Nate Olson had a big game on Friday in addition to his already productive week for Carbon. Olson had a team-high three hits and two RBIs against Delta.
    For the week, Olson had five hits and five RBIs for Carbon while also being the winning pitcher at home against Delta.
    “He really swung the bat well for us and was consistent all week for us. That is something we need from him,” said Cisneros.
    This week Carbon will take on top ranked Union twice in the battle for first place in Region 14.
    Union comes into this week with a 4-0 record as well and will host Carbon on Wednesday before coming to Helper on Friday to take on the Dinos.
    Cisneros knows that his team will need to play up to the competition this week and be ready for the challenge in all phases of the game.
    “This week and the last week of the season will be big weeks for us because it can decide who takes first and second in the region,” said Cisneros. “We just need to play our baseball which is good pitching, good defense and timely hitting. We need to play to our potential.”
    First pitch for Friday’s game at the Helper Legion Field is set for 3 p.m.
