The Carbon wrestling team finished their 2017-2018 season with placing 8th at the 3A State Tournament last week.
Helping the Dinos get their finish was the placing of seven wrestlers from their program.
“They really showed up at the right time. The fact that some lost in the first round and then came back and placed is a testament of how resilient my team is,” said Carbon Head Coach Brock Fausett.
Coach Fausett said that his coaching staff and him had a goal before the season of placing six wrestlers at state this year doubling last year’s number of three state placers.
The highest placing wrestler in their weight class was senior Casey Shiner who finished second in the 132-weight class.
“We have been trying to get a state champion in the county for years and this was one step closer to that,” said Fausett.
The Dinos had four wrestlers finish in fourth place in their respective weight classes: Bobby Blake (132), Bradley Judd (138), Conner Fausett (145) and Triton Abeyta (182).
Kaden Gibson finished in fifth place in the 126lb division and freshman Bryce Judd finished in sixth place in the 113lb division.
Despite losing four seniors who placed at state this year, Coach Fausett is optimistic about the future of his program going into next season.
“We got a good pool of juniors that are looking to repeat and go to state for placement and also some sophomores and freshman as well,” said Fausett.
The Dinos will continue to work hard in the offseason with camps and clinics in preparation for the 2018-2019 wrestling season in hopes of moving closer to bringing home a state title for Carbon High School.
