The Helper City Council last Thursday unanimously approved a proposal to conduct a Lunatic Triathlon in the city next Aug. 24.
Scott Merrill, who has organized the late-night athletic events in Price for eight years, told the council he’s intrigued with the possibility of using part of the Price River through Helper as a venue for kayak racing in addition to the traditional running, biking and swimming competitions.
Although the event is still in the planning stages, it would start at about 9 p.m. under a full moon and involve the city pool, river trail and mountain bike trails in addition to a one-mile section of the restored river.
The time and date are not expected to conflict with either the Arts and Music Festival or the County Fair.
