Nature has blessed Helper with an abundance of boulders, a few of which could be put to recreational use soon.
The city council is considering a suggestion to put a boulder park on a site that is now used as a volleyball pit along the Price River Trail.
The idea is to give youngsters something to climb on near the trail’s picnic pavilion.
The only drawback so far is a way to protect kids when the inevitable falls occur. The pit is now filled with sand, a substance that makes a good litter box but a poor shock absorber.
Schools use shredded rubber or wood shavings around playground equipment, so the city will shop around to see if there’s something available that would work.
