The Carbon High School softball team went 3-2 in its games this weekend, defeating Pineview High School on Thursday before traveling to a tournament in St. George. At the tournament, the Dinos defeated the Idaho Grizzlies and Kearns, but fell to Cedar and Enterprise.
Carbon defeated Pine View on Thursday 11-9. The Dinos scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, and five in the seventh. Pine View trailed throughout the game, and despite four runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Dinos were able to pull out the win.
Cali Fossat went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBI in the game. Kinley Nelson pitched three innings and Dekoda Kraushaar pitched four innings for the Dinos, throwing five strikeouts each.
The Dinos fell to Cedar on Friday 8-2, despite two hits from Kaytlyn Cripps. However, Carbon bounced back and defeated the Idaho Grizzlies 13-2 later in the day. Kelsey Sorenson went 3-for-4 in the game with a double and one RBI, and Kraushaar also went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
The Dinos went on to beat Kearns 13-7 on Saturday, thanks in large part to home runs by Fossat, Nelson and Kraushaar. The Dinos tallied 14 total hits, with Fossat and Kraushaar tallying four RBI each.
Carbon fell to Enterprise 13-2 to finish the weekend. The Dinos are now 3-2 overall to start the season. Carbon will travel to play Grand High School on Tuesday, and will return home to host Union High School on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
