The Carbon High School volleyball team lost its match against Delta High School in three straight sets on Thursday, but despite the loss, head coach Julia Shettell said the Lady Dinos are continuing to improve.
The Dinos kept the score close early in the first set against Delta, trailing by just a few points. However, Delta got on a roll and began to score quickly midway through the set and took a larger lead, and eventually won 25-14.
“I think one thing that we need to improve on is getting a faster offense and working on our blocking,” said Shettell. “That Delta team is the fastest team in our region.”
Carbon kept the score closer in the second set, but still was unable to keep up with Delta’s quick offense and lost 25-17. In the third and final set, the Dinos lost 25-7.
Shettell said the Dinos will look to speed up their offense in practice, so they know what to expect on the court, even though Delta is the fastest team they’ll see this season.
“[We need to] work on getting a faster offense ourselves so our girls, when they’re playing defense, they know what to expect during the game.”
The Dinos will take to the road for their next game, traveling to Juab on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. match. Carbon’s next home match will be on Sept. 28 against Providence Hall at 6:30 p.m.
