HELPER/MESQUITE- Melvin Curtis Baughman, age 69, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2017 with his loving family around him.
He was born November 2, 1948 in Rifle, Colorado to John Curtis and Norma Jean Vanderpool Baughman.
Mel moved to Helper, Utah in 1964 where he finished high school at Carbon High graduating in 1967. He married Paula Marie Weiss, June 22, 1969 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. They lived in Salt Lake City for 3 years before moving back to Helper in 1971. Mel worked for the Denver & Rio Grande/Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman and engineer for 42 years, retiring in September of 2009. Mel was an avid reader and he loved his little dog “Zoey”. Mel had incredible sense of humor and when he walked into any room he had a unique way of letting everyone know he was there. Mel will be sorely missed by all.
Survived by his loving wife, Paula; son, Dwayne, Helper; daughter, Nicole, Helper; grandchildren, Keisha and Kacey; sister, Jeanie Mae Magno, Mesquite, NV; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Via, Mesquite, NV.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Jean Baughman; and his in-laws, Martin and Mary Weiss.
Funeral Mass, Monday, November 6, 2017, 10:00 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church with a vigil service starting at 9:30 a.m. Committal, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
