Carbon Volleyball held their annual preseason Blue and White game Thursday inside Carbon High Gym.
To kick off the night, the freshman volleyball team took on the sophomore volleyball team.
Following that game the varsity team defeated the junior varsity team 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-16).
Although it was ultimately a scrimmage that does not count toward their record, first-year head coach Teresa Mower was satisfied with the showing from her program on Thursday.
“I am extremely excited with what I saw and I know what things what we will be working on,” said Mower.
In the first set the varsity team was led by junior Diana Morley who finished the set with five kills.
Both teams showed the energy and enthusiasm that Coach Mower was looking for even when the game was heavily dominated by the varsity.
“The energy was great, better than we have. Honestly I think the caliber of volleyball was higher than its been,” said Mower.
The varsity team kept up their dominating performance in the second set with a great performance from by junior Gracie Salas who had nine kills with all but eight of those kills coming at the end of the set.In the third set the JV did not go away easily.
After starting the final set down 4-0, the JV came back and cut the varsity lead to 7-5 and eventually only trailed 15-12 midway through the set.
The varsity team would eventually take control of the set with 10 points coming sophomore Makenna Blanc and seven points coming from Salas.
At the end of the night Mower said that the effort and energy on the court Thursday night came from the hard work that was put in the past two weeks of practice.
“It was just a culmination of their two weeks of giving it their all, they have a lot of heart. They are not going to quit on anything, that is why I am so excited. Yes, we are young but we have athletic ability and a lot of heart,” said Mower.
The Dinos will now turn their attention to their first game of the regular season next Wednesday against rival Emery.
Wednesday’s game will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Carbon High School.
