Daniel Robert Garvin, a 35 year veteran teacher in the Carbon School District, is a transplant to Price. Garvin is often referred to by many different names, Mr. Garvin, Coach Garvin, Garv, Daniel, Bob, and his favorite, Grandpa.
He was born in Ephrata, Washington to Laura and Earl Garvin, living in many western states as his father bought and sold businesses across the west. Those businesses ranged from a potato chip factory in Oregon, a motel on the beach in Crescent City, Calif., a dairy in Idaho, to a second hand shop in Albuquerque, N.M. This was where his love of people, cultures, business, and travel began. Because his family moved many times, he learned how to make friends quickly through his kindness and humor, a trait that would serve him well in his future career as a teacher.
His family moved to Delta, where he graduated from Delta High School. He attended Snow College for a year before serving an L.D.S. Mission in the Samoa, Apia Mission. After his mission, he met and married his wife, Linda Parkinson Garvin, a Delta native.  Bob worked for IFA for a year before returning to school at Snow College shortly after his daughter Melanie was born. While at Snow College, Rick Dove, a professor and local businessman, introduced him to Marketing Education. He pursued this career path at Utah State University graduating with high honors.
He was offered and accepted a position in the Carbon School District with the assignment to start a Marketing and DECA program in both Carbon and East Carbon High Schools. The following year his program had grown to the point he taught solely at C.H.S. While teaching, he received his Master of Science in Business and Marketing degree from Utah State University in 1990. During his 35 years of teaching at Carbon High, he coached students in Girls Tennis, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, and Girls Volleyball. He has also run the Work Study Program, the CTE Internship Programs, and the DECA programs as well as serving as the Eastern Regional Inservice Director. During his tenure at Carbon, he has taught over 7,500 students, helped coach hundreds of athletes, and assisted numerous students in finding jobs. One cannot go into a local business in Price without finding someone he has taught or is currently teaching. Many of them are local business owners, operators, or managers. As a teacher, he has always been concerned with helping his students succeed, and lifting their spirits when they are down by making them smile. His disarming humor, and his kindness have endeared him to his present and former students.
Of all his accomplishments, his family is his greatest. He and his wife Linda have 5 children, Melanie Oveson (Seth), Dr. Daniel Garvin (Stephanie), Thomas Garvin (Cassidy), Megan Urbanik (Timmy), and Dallen Garvin (Kaylee). He also helped to raise his sister’s three sons, Errol Adams (Heidi), Tristan Garvin (Sarah), and Sean Adams. Bob and Linda have 20 grandchildren with one on the way.
When the Garvins first came to Price to look for a place to live, they looked around and said, “Well, we will see how this goes.” It didn’t take long for them to love the community because of the people that live here. “Price and Carbon County is a true melting pot in the state of Utah.  There are so many wonderful people that live and work here.” Thirty-five years later they call Price their home, the best kept secret in Utah.
