ARIZONA/HELPER-UT-Kathy Prazen Colombo Evans, age 66, peacefully passed away at home on April 3, 2016 after waging a valiant battle against cancer. She is now pain free and happily reunited with her two sons, Richie and Paul.
She was born on July 16, 1949 to John and Mary Prazen, the youngest of their three daughters. After graduating from Carbon High School in 1967, Kathy married Richard Colombo. They spent 32 years together, working side by side at R & A Market, and raising their two amazing boys. They later divorced and Kathy relocated to Salt Lake City, where she married Boyd Evans. The marriage ended in divorce, but Kathy remained close to Boyd and his children. She eventually moved to Queen Creek, Arizona to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She found love once again and spent the remainder of her life with her partner, Bo Weaver. Bo devoted himself to caring for Kathy in her final months and his love for her never wavered. The family is deeply grateful for his compassion and care of her.
Kathy loved cooking for her family and friends and spent years translating that love of food into her career. Her ventures included bringing the wonderful bakery to R&A Market; managing the kitchens for the Elks Lodge and the Carbon Country Club; and eventually opening her own restaurant in Helper. She fed the majority of the Carbon High football teams from 1986-1991, thanks to Richie and Paul, and she loved every moment of it. In later years, she ventured into laundry mats and real estate, where to no one’s surprise her hard work translated to more success. She also worked closely with children’s charities including Sunshine Acres, and EFELT (Elks Feeding Empty Little Tummies). She loved the outdoors and had an incredible green thumb. Her yards and gardens were envied by many.
Kathy is survived by her partner, Bo Weaver (San Tan Valley, AZ); her daughter-in-law, Christy Colombo and 4 grandchildren, Derek Johnston, Ryan Johnston, Zachery Colombo and Rachel Colombo (Chandler, AZ); her sister, Joanne (John) Sharpe (Provo, UT); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by her sons Richard John Colombo and Paul Michael Colombo; her parents, John and Mary Prazen; and her sister Maryann.
