The Carbon High School girls’ basketball team defeated its cross-county rival, Emery High School, on Friday night 49-36.
The Dinos got off to a slow start, going back and forth with Emery through the first few minutes of the game. With a little over two minutes remaining in the first period, the Spartans tied the game at nine. However, that’s all the Dinos would allow in the first period and once they got ahead, they never looked back.
At halftime, the Dinos led 33-21 and coming out of the break still energized, the Dinos held the Spartans to only five points in the third period. Carbon continued to play strong basketball throughout the fourth period and finished the game by a 13-point margin.
On the court for the Dinos, senior Sara Morley scored 14 points and also tallied 13 rebounds. Sophomore Kelsey Sorenson scored 10 points and junior Taylor Passarella tallied 10 rebounds.
The Dinos will go on the road to a tournament at Fruita this weekend before playing at North Summit on Dec. 15. The Dinos will play their next home game against Uintah on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
