Faces of Halloween at the Castle Valley Center

By Sun Advocate

With Halloween behind us, and Thanksgiving and Christmas just ahead, we want to leave one last memory of Halloween. The students and staff at the Castle Valley Center enjoy each holiday as it comes. Halloween is a favorite for many of our students.
We began the celebration with an assembly where Jennifer Clark entertained us with potions and spells to get us in the right mood for ghosts and goblins. Jennifer was well received as she opened her book of spells and called students out of the audience to assist her in helping everyone to have a great time.
We then moved on to our annual Halloween carnival where students visited each room with a favorite game or activity to participate and receive a prize. The festivities then moved to the gym where the students participated in a cake walk. A favorite was to hear Bruce Burgess tell a Halloween story as he carved a pumpkin. Bruce has done this for many years and each year we hear a new tale. Then on to the costume contest.
A few of our winners from the adult group this year were Randy Hunter along with his mother Ella Dean and sister Annette were a hit as three blind mice. Daniel Petty entertained everyone as the Doctor from the Operation Game.
We ended on Halloween day, with a Trunk or Treat activity in the school bus turn around sponsored by the Family to Family Network. Various staff, Parents, and other volunteers decorated their cars and had both edible and non-edible treats for students to choose from out of their trunks. This was a first for us and was well received.
The Family to Family Network is a support group of parents and others who meet and help each other with concerns for their children with disabilities. Any interested parents in the community can receive more information at the Castle Valley Center.
As we move on to finish 2015, we want to thank our wonderful community for all of the support and help you give to all of us at the Castle Valley Center. We are fortunate to live in an area where people really care about each other. We invite the community to come and visit us any time. Perhaps after a tour you may decide this would be a great place to volunteer and see the joy that our students have as shown by their happy faces at Halloween and any other time of the year.
