A group of local football players brought home a championship after competing in a tournament on Nov. 22-23 in Mesquite, Nev.
The local team known as Team Us, which was comprised of 11/12 year olds, won the 6th Grade B Pool 2 championship after defeating Lehi 33-6 on Friday evening and clinching the title with a 24-7 win over Virgin Valley on Saturday evening, according to coach Todd Oldham. They were scheduled to play a game on Thursday, Nov. 21 but it was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Oldham said a total of 68 teams participated at the tournament, including seven teams in the 11/12 year old division. The team was formerly known as the Carbon Elite but changed their names to Team Us and taped over the Carbon name on their jerseys.
The roster of players includes Jaylon Dennis, Chris Sunter, Zach Gibson, Darren Oldham, Daniel Vega, Larry Kennick, Sayer Nelson, Chandler Kinsinger, Isaac Quintana, Ryker Larsen, Braydon Barker, Jace Draper, Ryan Madrigal, Taio Badback, Adrian Sanchez, Jaydon Freeze and Jordan Thomas. The coaches include Todd Oldham, Adrian Sanchez, Matt Pettus, Jerry Barker and Keith Barker. Oldham said he and the team wanted to thank Price City for their help including finding the team a field to practice on before the tournament on short notice.
