Sometimes one team can just prove to be a pain to beat, whether at home or on the road.
Just ask the Carbon High volleyball team about playing Richfield.
The Lady Dinos needed all five sets (19-25, 25-18, 25-18, 16-25, 15-11) to pull away for a Region 12 win against a pesky Richfield team that refused to make things easy in the regular season finale for both teams.
Richfield overcame an early deficit to take the first set but the Lady Dinos responded with back-to-back set wins. In both the second and third set, Carbon took control thanks to key plays from senior middle hitter Annika Hansen and junior libero Katee Martinez.
Richfield, whose lone victory in Region 12 play came against Carbon on Oct. 3, stormed back with a win in the fourth set to extend the game to a fifth set. With Carbon leading 14-11 but with Richfield hanging on to a bit of momentum, the game ended on an error when a Richfield player moved before a teammate’s serve was completed.
Carbon, 9-11 overall and 5-3 in Region 12 play, will now focus on the 3A State Playoffs as they prepare to open tournament play against Stansbury on Friday, Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. at Utah Valley University.
