While dropping their two games at the state tournament may have been tough way to finish the season, the Carbon High softball team did not finish with a wimper.
While the Lady Dinos fell to Juan Diego and Pine View by a combined score of 25-2, the team can take solace in their performance in a wild 7-5 comeback win over Delta in the play-in game to get into the playoffs.
Down 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Dinos erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth which included a 2-run home run by freshman Desirae Lantz.
“That was by far the most positive moment of the season for the girls,” said CHS head coach Kirt Nunley. “The monkey was finally off our backs and the girls knew they could come and win the game.”
While the team will lose seniors Jordyn Cave and Lacey Lambson, Nunley and assistant coaches Dave Basinger and Erika Sacco feel the experience for the younger players should bode well for future years.
“We’ve got to minimize our mistakes on defense, improve our fielding and get stronger and faster overall,” Nunley said.
The Lady Dinos finished the season with an overall record of 6-19 and a 3-7 mark in Region 12 play.
