Carbon High girls golf team records top finishes with three tournaments in seven days

Three tournaments in seven days and the Lady Dinos come away with two seconds and a win.
On Thursday April 12 had the Lady Dinos, at Dinaland Golf Course, in Vernal for the Ladies Basin Invitational, a non-region tournament. Dinaland, the site for this years State Tournament and Uintah’s home course, hosted Carbon and Delta in this first annual event. Carbon took second behind Uintah with Kelcy Otani leading the team with a score of 74 points for 18 holes. The team finished 15 points behind Uintah with a score of 194.
Payson hosted the region at Gladstan Golf Course on Monday April 16, for a nine hole region match. The Lady Dinos found their stride with a win and a team score of 138. Lexi Gagon lead the team with a score of 38 points, Katie Felice made 35, Kelcy Otani 33 and Sam Jones 32. Spanish Fork’s Britney Munter was the medalist with 41 points and lead their team to a second place finish. Delta held strong for third.
Juab hosted at Canyon Hills Golf Course on April 18 to round out the triad. A charging Carbon came away with a second place finish four points behind Spanish, with a score of 136. Lexi Gagon lead the team with 35 points, Kelcy Otani made 34, Katie Felice 34 and Hailey Kirkwood rounded out the team with 33. Spanish Fork’s Kelli Christensen made 39 points for the win and medalist honors.
“The team is finally finding their stride. It has taken us a couple tournaments and we are a little behind Spanish in region play, but we are definitely on course for State,” said Kenji Otani, Carbon High head golf coach.
“When your entire team makes 30 or more points like what happened at Juab you know you have girls that can play. I am very proud of the girls. I know what they are capable of and they are starting to realize their talent,” he said.
