HUNTINGTON – Desie Jane Nielson Oviatt, of Huntington, passed away May 31, 2012 in Price.
She was born on January 8, 1927 in Lockerby to Joseph and Deloa Hansen Nielson. She married Loren N. Oviatt in Gallup, N.M. on April 28, 1947. Marriage later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
Desie grew up in Lockerby and Moab. She graduated from high school in Moab, and beauty school in Grand Junction. She served four LDS missions (Auckland, New Zealand; Dublin, Ireland; Albuquerque, NM; and Family History Library in Salt Lake City). She opened her home to the full-time sister missionaries for a year.
She lived in several places in Utah and Idaho. Desie was a waitress, beautician, Justice of the Peace, and store clerk. She was very involved with the American Cancer Society, Riding Club, and Rodeos. She served as Relief Society President, Young Women Counselor, Primary and Sunday School teacher, and Visiting Teacher. Desie was also an extreme Utah Jazz fan.
She is survived by her children: Warren (Debra Lynn), Huntington, Kent (Christine), Vernal, Jerry L. (Charlene), Huntington; daughter-in-law, Debra Jean Oviatt, Castle Dale; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Loren; son, Chet; daughter-in-law, Valene; three infant grandsons; brothers: Enos, Jay, Ted, and Stanley; Sisters: Lorraine and Una; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 8, 2012 at 11 am at the Huntington LDS Stake Center (240 N. Main Street). Viewing will be Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale (720 N. Center St.) and Friday at the Stake Center from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Huntington City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Friends and family may sign the guest book and share memories of Desie at www.fausettmortuary.com.
