Region play begins with grand plans for the Lady Dinos

By Sun Advocate

The Lady Dinos started off region play with the first step to their goal of going undefeated again through region eight play. Sweeping the Soaring Eagles on Tuesday night 25-23, 25-14 and 25-20 kept them on the right track.
The first game of the evening was a nail biter from the beginning. Back and forth lead changes kept the crowd on edge. Thirteen unforced errors by the Dinos let Juan Diego stay neck and neck with them. But in the nick of time, the Dinos found their rhythm and finished them off.
In game two, Carbon grabbed the lead quickly and never looked back. Crisp passing and solid serves made short work of the Soaring Eagles. Game three looked a little more like game one. Juan Diego again traded punches with the Dinos. But unlike game one, the Dinos found their equilibrium and this time held the lead throughout. In the end, the score looked closer than the game really was.
Coach Cristin Johnson was glad for the win. ” It was a good win and a good way to start region play.” After game one’s large amount of unforced errors, she told her team they needed to limit their errors to five or six. In game two, they did get them down to six. “If we can keep our errors down to six or less, we will be tough to beat.”
Julia Potts had another 23 assists. Britni Greenwood lead the offense with 10 kills. Joy Malone added seven kills. Chantel Jensen had a great game with five kills. Johnson was really happy with how Jensen stepped up her game.
The team had a week to prepare for one of the toughest region matches to come. North Sanpete will blow into town looking to unseat the Dinos from the top of region. The Hawks are ranked number four, just below the number three ranked Dinos and so it should be another thriller. Varsity begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Carbon High gym.
