It has been another difficult season for the Dino football team. Friday night’s 61-20 loss to Grantsville was a tough pill to swallow for the squad that still hangs on to a hope of a decent season. With one more preseason game this weekend to get it together, Carbon still needs to find a way to stop the opponents offense.
For a somber Coach Paur, his bright spot was that the Carbon offense moved the ball better than they have been doing. But the plague of the team, penalties, kept the squad from being the true offensive force they could be.
The Cowboys took it to Carbon early and often as they went in three times in the first quarter before Carbon could score. Andrew Salazar punched in the first score for Carbon on a one yard run. Damian Olsen kicked the extra point on that play.
Tysen Stevens and Blake Najera continue to shine for the Dinos. They connected for a touchdown in the second quarter. With seconds ticking away in the third, Cole Stevens picked up a fumble and ran 56 yards for the final Carbon points. Landen Martindale kicked the extra point.
Defensively, Paur had little comment, “I really don’t know what to say. We don’t have very powerful linemen. Three of my starters were not able to play for one reason or another and that hurt. Most of the line are sophomores. And where that will help in future years, it doesn’t help now.”
He is still hopeful, “But we press on, the kids still have a good attitude. We will work hard and see what happens.”
The Dinos play Ogden this Friday night with kick-off at 7 p.m. at the Carbon High field.
