The boys of summer are going to get another chance to play starting this season as Price City and the American Legion Price Post #3 have started a second legion baseball team.
The squad will be managed by Willie Ellington and have been given the endorsement of the legion by Commander Mario DiCaro.
“Guy Adams brought this up to me,” said Ellington. “He asked me why Price didn’t have a legion team and I went straight to work on it. Getting the endorsement from the local legion was really all I needed, because after that the communities in both Carbon and Emery counties really came out to support us on this.”
The team will conduct its games at CEU’s field and will have tryouts May 21 and 22 at 5 p.m. at the Toy Atwood Complex.
The team will play the Senior circuit meaning that they can accept any player who was born on or after Jan. 1, 1989. The team will allow players from all over southeastern Utah including, Carbon, Emery and Grand counties.
“American Legion ball was founded to help out the disadvantaged and I would like to keep with that spirit,” said Ellington. We want to make this team about fun and sportsmanship, showing our youth that we care. A lot of kids in our community are on the verge of becoming involved with the courts and other counter-productive activities, we just want to do what we can to steer them away from that.”
The team will have its first game vs. Vernal on June 6.
“One thing I really want to say is how supportive everyone including Jeff Cisneros has been of this team,” said Ellington. “We feel like this is going to be a great opportunity for everyone who loves baseball in southeastern Utah.”
