Thomas A. Burgess
PRICE – Our loving father, grandfather and beloved uncle, Thomas A. Burgess, age 92, passed away May 12, 2008 in Price.
Born Oct. 2, 1915 in Provo to William J. and Mary Gatherum Burgess. He married Esther Wolfrom Jan. 2, 1959 in Boulder City, Nev. She passed away on Oct. 15, 2006.
Tom served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. His duties included being an aircraft service mechanic, crew chief and aircraft instrument mechanic. He worked on the Boeing 4 engine on the B-17 bomber.
Tom served 11 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and several years in the Civil Air Patrol.
In 1947, he received his private pilot license.
Tom was a licensed contractor who built many homes in the area. He was a very talented craftsman and he especially enjoyed helping others with their electrical and plumbing repairs.
He also worked at the College of Eastern Utah in the maintenance department.
Tom enjoyed working in the yard and fixing anything that was broken.
He was a kind and loving caregiver to all in need, especially to his wife.
He will be missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by his daughters, Mary (Dan) Baxter, Highland; and Patsy (Dennis) Jensen, Carbonville; nine grandchildren, Dawn (Shane) McMillan, Taylorsville; Christopher (Angie) Arambula, South Jordan; Jeremy (Angelyn) Jensen, Logan; DaNeen Kirkwood, Price; Debbie (Robin) Rudman, Wellington; Justin (Tammy) Jensen, Spring Glen; Mike (Stormie) Baxter, Aurora, Colo.; Melinda (Mike) Wallis, Cedar Hills; and Marcie (Dan) Clawson, Pleasant Grove; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; loving niece, Janet (Tom) Patterick, Price; special nephew, Joe (Esta Lee) Mason, Price; many other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; dear wife, Esther; two sisters and two brothers.
Graveside service Friday, May 16, noon, Price City Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily.
John Callas
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo./HELPER – John Callas, 77, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008, at Castle Rock Medical Center in Green River, Wyo.
A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Superior, Wyo., he was born Sept. 29, 1930 in Helper to William Sr. and Joan Riccardo Callas. He married Vicki Ponikvar on April 4, 1964 in Rock Springs, Wyo. He attended school in Helper.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.
Following his discharge, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier from 1952 until July 1987. He also was employed by Vase Emergency Medical Services as an EMT for many years.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community, American Legion Archie Hay Post 24, National Rifle Association and Letter Carriers Association.
His interests included fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife Vicky Callas of Rock Springs, Wyo.; two brothers, Jim (Rosemary) Callas and William (Sally) Callas of Rock Springs, Wyo.; one sister, Phyllis Christensen of Helper; one stepsister, Goldie (Steve) Drollinger of Layton; stepmother, Annie Callas of Salt Lake City; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather Fonzie Spensko; two brothers, Tom Callas and Dennis Spensko.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Avenue, Rock Springs, Wyo. Rosary will be recited Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the church. Friends may call Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. Military graveside services and interment will be conducted at the Saint Joseph’s Section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.

Kathy Jean Olsen Hotchkiss
ELMO – Kathy Jean Olsen Hotchkiss returned to Heavenly Father after a long battle with cancer May 13, 2008.
Born Dec. 28, 1950 to John and Betty Olsen in West Jordan. Married George Hotchkiss in 1981.
Kathy graduated from Bingham High School in 1969 and went on to become a hair stylist plus other occupations, microfilm technician and accounting.
Kathy loved to bowl, go camping, fishing, and loved to travel.
Kathy loved her family and friends; she was the one person who put a smile on your face at all times.
Kathy had the opportunity to see the world from New York to Hawaii. She also got to go on two cruises to the Mexican Riviera and the Caribbean Puerto Rico with her husband, mother, brother and sister-in-law.
She loved being outdoors and a sun worshiper and lived her life one day at a time having too much fun.
Kathy loved her mom and dad and always expressed how much she wanted to be with them. Well the time has come and we all know she is in a better place and not in anymore pain.
Kathy is survived by son, Lance Beal; husband, George Hotchkiss; brother, Larry Olsen; sister, Janice (Jack) Pierce; sister, Linda (Caesar) Cabrales; great friend, Pamula; and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by father, John Olsen; mother, Betty Olsen; and two nephews, Jami Olsen and Cody Dumas.

Mary Sherman
HUNTINGTON – Mary Sherman, age 100, died May 13, 2008 in her home at Huntington.
She was born Sept. 8, 1907 in Cleveland to Joseph Pringle and Maria White. She married Joel Glain Sherman on April 25, 1925 in Castle Dale.
Mary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught Primary, was a visiting teacher and served in many other capacities for the church.
Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, quilting and sewing.
She learned the value of hard work while living on her family farm in Cleveland, where she was one of five children.
For 40 years, she worked the library on wheels for Carbon and Emery County School District and was a member of the Huntington Senior Citizen band.
She was a loving person who always cared for others.
She is survived by her children, Zelma Burdett of Globe, Ariz., Joseph Sherman of Cleveland; Ruby Lapp of Salt Lake City; Earl (Connie) Sherman of Ogden; Marie Williams of Carlsbad, N.M.; Arland Sherman of Huntington; Keith Sherman of Ogden; Louise Heinger of Ogden; Shirlene Hammonds of Virginia; Lynn (June) Sherman of Huntington; and Richard (Betty) Sherman of Huntington; 78 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters-in-law, Thelma Sherman and Shirley Sherman; sons-in-laws, James Williams, Fred Hammonds and Ted Burdett; two sisters; two brothers; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at the Huntington LDS Stake Center, 240 North Main. Viewing will be Friday, May 16, 6 to 8 p.m., at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, 720 North Center, and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Huntington City Cemetery.
