Dylan Olsen serves up a strike to A Juan Diego batter. He pitced five innings and got the win against the Soaring Eagles on Tuesday.

Playing some of Carbon High’s best ball this season. the Dinos took the top half of a doubleheader against Juan Diego by the score of 9-7. They struggled in game two and dropped the second game 10-3.
With some great weather to play ball in, the Dinos jumped out early with some good hitting against Juan Diego in the first game of the doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
Dylan Olsen took the mound and after throwing three straight balls over the plate came back and struck out the first batter to set the tone for his game. He shut down the soaring Eagle and let the Dino bats take over. They put three on the board to jump out to a lead.
Juan Diego answered with a pair in the top of the second, but the Dinos came right back with a run. All was silent from each team for the next two innings, with good D taking over. But in the fifth, Olsen tired a bit and the Soaring Eagle teed off for three to take a one run lead.
Again, the Dino offense was up to the task as the players put up a four spot to go up 8-5. The Dinos added one more in the sixth before Juan Diego made one last run at it in the seventh with a pair to fall two short.
Nathan Martinez had a good day at the plate with a homerun and a pair of doubles. Ron Herrera also knocked one over the fence. Brandon Branch had three RBI singles.
“This was a satisfying win. When we played as good as we did, it was nice to get the win as well. Olsen had a good five innings to get us in position for the win. We played good defense for a change and I was proud of the performance of the team.
But the good feelings didn’t get to stick around long. The second game had Juan Diego jumping out to a four run lead by the top of the second. Three more in the third put the Dinos into a big hole.
In the bottom of the third, the Carbon bats finally got rolling and were able to take back three. But that was the end of the offense and the chance of sweeping the Soaring Eagles. Juan Diego added three more before it was over to split the pair of games with the Dinos.
Carbon used four pitchers to get through the second game. Greg Barker was the starter and charged with the loss.
Lance Deeter had two RBI doubles to lead the Dino offense in the second game. Branch also had another good game at the plate with two of the five Dino hits.
Carbon sits in fourth place in the region, only one game in back of Delta and two behind Emery. The Dinos travel to North Sanpete for a game on Friday and then get a chance to make up ground with a doubleheader at Delta next Tuesday. They will play Emery at home on May 1.
