Megan Garvin puts down a three during an earlier contest vs. Union. |
After a week like the Lady Dinos had last week, losing a heart breaker to rival Emery and then kicking sand in the face of highly ranked Morgan, it may be understandable that they had a hard time getting jazzed about playing 0-3 Juan Diego.
Even though they walked away with a 34-15 win, Coach Carlson was a bit disappointed with the play of her team. “It was like they just couldn’t get excited about the game. We got up fast and then they just played the middle of the game like they were satisfied to cruise the rest of the way.”
The bright spot of the whole game was the team defense that held Juan Diego to only one quarter where they scored more than three points. Carbon let them have four in the fourth. But in the middle of the game, Juan Diego also played tough D and held Carbon to eight points total in the second and third period.
The Dinos jumped out fast in the game. They racked up half their game total in the first quarter with 15. Up 15-3 the offense sputtered for the next two periods of play. Juan Diego played a good man defense and got in the face of the Dinos to disrupt their play. But in the fourth, carbon got back into rhythm and put up 11 to ice the game.
Megan Garvin was the only Dino player in double figures with 17 on the night. Her scoring came mostly from her hot hand outside the arc and she was credited with five threes.
Carbon heads to Delta this Thursday before coming home to play North Sanpete next Tuesday at home. “We have to take every game seriously.” stressed Carlson “Delta on their home floor will not be an easy game and North Sanpete will be fired up to beat us after we beat them on their home floor.”
Next week will again be a big week for the Lady Dinos as they will have to play North Sanpete at home on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Carbon High gym. They will finish the week with a trip to Castledale and a rematch with the Emery Spartans.
