Sophomore Jennie Rudder intensely smashes a kill against CNCC earlier in season. CEU heads into SWAC Conference tournament play this Friday. |
The Eagles took on Snow and SLCC for their final two matches last week. They battled Snow, but lost in four, 21-30, 30-20, 24-30, and 26-30. SLCC took them out in a sweep 24-30, 11-30, and 19-30.
It was the final two match-ups before heading into conference tournament play. Coach Martindale had little to say about the losses, but felt like his team was working hard this week for the tournament ahead.
The Eagles drew Northern Idaho College as their firs round opponent. Martindale was relieved it wasn’t Southern Idaho, who has blown his team out in their matches. Even though CEU has lost to NIC twice in regular season play, they have matched up well and improved each time they have played.
Martindale summed up NIC as a young team, much like the Eagles, but fielding one of the best players in the conference.
SWAC Conference action for CEU begins this Friday in Twin Falls, ID with game time at 1:00. They are in a pool with NIC, CSI and CNCC. Winner in that bracket will take on the winner of the B bracket which has already been determined. SLCC beat Snow to earn that honor.
