James and Scott Bailey, along with Asa Shreve, check out an old Allis Chalmers bulldozer left near a mining operation on Calf Mesa many years ago. Many local residents take a lot of time and effort to explore the San Rafael Swell and not all of it is about scenery and ATV’s. Many like to hike to remote places and explore the mining, ranching and other history of the area. The Swell includes everything from abandoned equipment and man made caves created for testing explosive results to an old railroad bed that was never finished.
