Julia Potts drives for a shot against Wasatch. The lady Dino’s next game is Dec. 2 at home.

Ranked number four in the Deseret News preseason poll for 3A teams, Wasatch rolled into price.
A tough opponent for an experienced team and the Carbon Dinos did not even have that going for them. A new coach and a very young, inexperienced starting line-up should have spelled disaster for the team. The final score of Wasatch 49, Carbon 39, did not reflect the true game. The Wasps only pulled away in the final minutes of a very competitive game.
Carbon started out playing an aggressive full court game that set Wasatch back on their heels. At the end on a seesaw first quarter, the Wasps held a one point edge. It continued to be a back and forth affair in the second quarter with the Wasps ahead by four at the break.
The Dinos had a bit of a let down after the half allowing the lead to grow to nine at the end of the third. But the scrappy Carbon squad cut the lead to three with less than five minutes to play. In the end, turnovers cost them the victory and Wasatch pulled away and put the game to bed.
Julia Potts led her team with 10 points and six steals. Kayla Namanny came on strong and put eight on the boards in the losing cause. Coach Cami Carlson was philosophical about the loss, “We have things to work on. They made some bad decisions and took some bad shots, but those are the things we can fix. They came out and hustled and there were many good things I saw as well.”
The team travels next week to Union on Tuesday. They won’t play again until December 2. at home. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Carbon High gym.
