May 7 – 8 Antelope Island State Park – Syracuse
Prehistory Week: Learn about the animals and people that lived in the Great Basin long before written history took place. Saturday, May 7, join park staff for storytelling at 11 a.m. At 3 p.m., enjoy a lecture on identifying and storing artifacts. Sunday, May 8 watch a movie about the Fremont Indians at 10 a.m., children may participate in games at noon, and the whole family can check their skills at creating rock art at 3 p.m. All activities are at the visitor center.
May 9 – 16 Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum – Blanding
San Juan Ceramic Traditions: Gregory Holiday, master potter from Monument Valley, conducts a pottery-building workshop for beginners. Tuition is $400.
May 14 Antelope Island State Park – Syracuse Junior Ranger Program: Explore the lure of wetlands for Antelope Island State Park’s wildlife on a short easy half-mile walk. Participants should meet at Fielding Garr Ranch at 2 p.m. Please bring sturdy shoes, water and sunscreen. While this program is aimed at children six through 12, all ages are welcome.
May 14 Palisade State Park – Sterling Three-Man Scramble: This event is open to individuals with an established Utah Golf handicap. Course reopens to the public after 2 p.m. May 14 Snow Canyon State Park – Ivins Weed Warrior Walk: Join park staff from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for a look at invasive plant species of the area. Learn how to identify and control these species, and how you can play a role in removing invasive weeds from the park. Registration required.
