On Tuesday, April 26, Carbon High track and field traveled to Emery High School for a qualifying meet.
Amie Stewart placed fifth in the 100-meter high hurdles after falling in a special heat. Amie had a state qualifying run and placed third in her first heat, but because the timing system malfunctioned in the first heat she ran, she had to run the event over again. Amie also placed fourth in the girls long jump.
Danielle Martino placed second in the girls high jump, followed by Brittany Banning in fourth place.
Mikaleen Loveless placed third in the girls shot put. Alice Johnson placed fourth in the girls javelin.
Katie Hobbs finished out of the medals by placing fifth in the girls 3200-meter run.
In the boys events, Jacob Perez ran a strong race to place third in the 400-meter sprint. Ori Winger and Anthony Kouris placed fifth and sixth in the 800-meter run.
In the jumping events, Carl Bergren placed sixth in the boys long jump. Stetson Kunz had a personal best jump to place fifth in the boys high jump.
Paul Goodrich led the Carbon boys in the 3200-meter run placing fourth overall with Kent Olson in sixth place and Kerry Powell in seventh.
On Saturday, April 30, Carbon took some of their athletes to Provo for a qualifying meet.
James McKendrick qualified for the finals in the javelin and placed fifth overall.
Other athletes that performed well were Beau Morley in th 1600-meter run and Tyler Munns in the 800-meter run. Both boys had personal best times.
Ashley Anderson made it to the finals in the long jump for the girls.
The next Carbon High meet will be Region, which will be held at Emery High School on Wednesday, May 4, at 10 a.m.
