Emotions ran high Saturday as thousands of family and friends turned out to welcome home members of the National Guard 1457 unit and other soldiers and troops returning from the war in Iraq. Even though many of the troops will follow at the end of the month, they were honored and remembered. Parades through Helper and Price drew large standing-room only crowds as the bands played and children presented programs. People waved flags, sobbed with happiness and pride and held each other tight as the mayors of each city welcome the men home to Carbon County.
