Those that have served on the Carbon County Commission in the past, and those who are serving now should be shown a debt of gratitude for creating a very nice fairgrounds facility, probably one of the nicest county fairgrounds I have been to. Whoever did the original planning and laying out of the facilities did their job very well. This is despite the fact that I do not think the county is completely through out there. Obviously more is still to be done.
The way the parking facilities are laid out is great and it would be nice if the county placed the handicapped parking spaces on both sides of the ticket office. The preplanning that has been done makes it real easy for us old last gaspers to walk down and into the bleachers.
I don’t know if the county has considered it or not, but it might be helpful to have a covering on the two bleacher sections on the east and the west end. In the evening when it turns cool and the breeze comes up, as it has done recently, the people could move over to either end and come under it’s protection. That would have helped on April 17 when a crowd was there.
The sound system is probably the best I have heard at any fairgrounds I have been in. It was a thrill for me to stand in the announcers booth and sing our National Anthem as my granddaughter circled the arena carrying our Old Glory. I just about let my emotions get out of control as I watched her carrying the flag while I sang. It was a moment in my life I will never forget
The taxpayers of Carbon County should be applauded for contributing their hard earned money to provide the funding for this outstanding facility.
High school rodeos are some of the best character and integrity building program in our educational system. When the young ladies ride into the arena you do not see bare shoulders, bare bellies or extra tight T-shirts. With the young men you do not see long hair or straggly beards, As I have circulated through the horses and riders I have never heard an off colored word. You cannot say this about words of description on the line of scrimmage with the football teams. Nor have I heard any off colored words from parents when a girl has knocked over every pole in the pole bending arena. It is certainly not like this in little league.
I would encourage the Carbon County Commissioners and the fairgrounds manager to show as much latitude to the Carbon County High School Rodeo Club as you can when considering these events. If you look closely, those that participate seldom turn to drugs and drinking when they graduate.
These individuals will be your upstanding law abiding citizens of the future.
