During the next two weeks, the Utah Department of Transportation will update elected officials regarding the status of an environmental impact statement in process on the U.S. Highway 6 corridor from Green River to Spanish Fork.
In the past, U.S. 6 was broken into segments and projects were completed in the specified areas.
However, the state transportation department has decided to make the entire road from the Wasatch Front to eastern Emery County one large highway improvement project.
UDOT has named Mike Miles as project engineer and manager.
The agency plans to make presentations about the EIS to various city councils during December.
The informational meetings will be conducted during regular sessions of the councils. The places and dates of the meetings include:
•Green River, 6 p.m, Dec. 9,.
•Price, 5:30 p.m., Dec. 10.
•Wellington, 7 p.m., Dec. 10.
•Spanish Fork, 6 p.m., Dec. 16.
•Helper, 6 p.m., Dec. 18.
At the city council meeting, the project’s staff will present an overview of alternatives considered to address safety and capacity issues on U.S. 6
In addition, the staff will provide an update of the roadway alternatives currently under review and discuss the types of medians being proposed at locations along the U.S. Highway 6 corridor.
The informational sessions will also include a discussion of potential wildlife crossings proposed along the corridor and a review of the possible alternatives being considered to address safety at the port-of-entry on U.S. 6.
“We have spent a lot of time looking at safety, design and environmental issues on Highway 6,” said Miles. “There is a lot of information here and it’s time again to talk with the people who live and work on the U.S. 6 corridor.”
While the sessions are being used to update elected officials on information about the highway and projects, UDOT encourages local residents to attend and learn more about future of U.S. Highway 6.
