Lady Vikings’ Janet Lowe cuts through the key at Green River gymnasium. East Carbon lost the matchup 50-32. |
Although Green River set the pace for the majority of the game with their run-and-gun offense, the Lady Vikings returned from halftime to give the Lady Pirates a scare.
Behind the scoring power of junior Samantha Madrid, who had 16 points on the night, and Donna Turner, who contributed nine, East Carbon made a third-quarter charge at the Lady Pirates, cutting their lead to five points and threatening to overtake the game with their new-found momentum.
However, Green River regained control of the match in the fourth quarter, running the floor and scoring 22 points to East Carbon’s 13.
The Pirates coasted to a 50-32 win.
The non-conference loss drops East Carbon to 0-2 in season play.
Other East Carbon scorers were Nickole Larson with five points and Janet Lowe with two.
The Lady Vikings will play two consecutives games against Altamont High, travelling to Altamont today and hosting the Lady Longhorns on Dec. 9.
