Dinos fall to Pioneers in Region 8 showdown

By Sun Advocate

The Dinos defense works together to take down a Lehi runner. Carbon hosted the Pioneers last Friday night. The Dinos struggled from the opening kick off and fell to Lehi 42-6 in Region 8 competition.

With the Region 8 football season rapidly drawing to an end, the Carbon High Dinos struggle to capture a regular season victory. With only two weeks left until the region tournament begins, the Dinos battle for a much needed win.
This win did not come to the Dinos this past week after the team fell to the Lehi Pioneers 42-6.
“We stunk. We weren’t ready to play,” coach Jeff Jorgensen explained.
Lehi opened up strong against the struggling Carbon team as the Pioneers chalked up 14 quick points in the first quarter.
The second quarter played out much like the first as the Pioneers scored 14 more points to bring the halftime score to 28-0.
Following the half, Carbon stepped out on to the field ready to launch a second half rally. The Dinos did score a touchdown in the third quarter as Jan Jorgensen ran eight yards for the score.
One of the biggest weaknesses for the Dinos this year has been their kicking game. Similar to games played earlier this season, the extra point kick was no good, thus leaving the Dinos trailing Lehi 28-6.
The Pioneers answered the Dinos offensive rally with a 40 yard pass from quarterback Rylee Worthen to a receiver who scored for the Pioneers. Entering the fourth quarter, the Dinos trailed 35-6.
The Dinos continued to struggle until the final whistle. After all was said and done, the Dinos had lost to the Pioneers 42-6.
“They just didn’t play well. The mental game wasn’t there and when your head isn’t in the game, then the physical game falls too. They just need to focus and come and play Dino football,” explained coach Jorgensen.
With only two games remaining this season on the Dinos schedule, it is important that the team finishes the season strong. The Dinos will host their final home game of the year Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
“We play Ogden this week and they’re a beatable team. We just need to come out and play hard. If the kids keep their minds on the game, we can beat Ogden,” coach Jorgensen stated.
After losing to Lehi this past week, the Dinos should be fired up to launch a comeback later this week.
With their current record standing at 0-3 in Region 8 match ups and 1-6 in the overall standings, it is extremely important for the Dinos to add to the win column in each standings bracket.
