Following their victory over Green River for the minor league championship, the Northern Heights team celebrates with their coaches and manager. The title came down to the wire as the team won in the sixth inning, 11-10.

The season is officially over for the Helper American Legion baseball team, however post-season action is about to begin for the local team.
The annual American Legion state tournament will begin August 3 for Helper who finished the season seeded in fourth place in their division with a 14-4 record for the year.
Helper will take to the field at 1 p.m. as they face Layton. The game plan for Helper is to come out swinging. According to coach Jeff Cisneros, the key to winning the ball game is to hit the ball well.
“We have came a long way this season as far as hitting is concerned. There have been big improvements at bat and in order to succeed in the state tournament, we have to hit the ball well. The rest of our game has really been good this season and we have a good chance at going far at state,” explained Cisneros.
The state tournament hosts 16 teams and is in double elimination format. This allows the teams to compete as much as possible before being eliminated from the tourney.
American Legion fans are welcome to attend the state tournament which will be held at Oquirrh Park in Kearns. Helper will set foot on the field at 1 p.m. Saturday and it is not yet known when they will play again. This depends on the outcome of the first game.
Oquirrh Park is located at 5600 South 4800 West in Kearns for anyone who is interested in attending.
