Baseball action continues to heat up with both major and minor league teams competing in the WBBA playoffs. This week a champion will be decided in the minor league division while the major league teams continue to play towards the single elimination tournament to be held next week. The winner of that tourney will move on to compete at the little world series.

Local WBBA all-star baseball activity moves into its second week of play this week, both in the major and minor league categories. Games this week will continue to be played on the Sunnyside, Northern Heights and Helper fields.
The minor league teams completed their round robin action last week with four teams qualifying for this week’s double elimination format. Top team following the first week is the Northern Heights squad with a perfect 4-0 record. Price National followed with a 3-1 record and Helper finished 2-2.
The fourth qualifier in the minor leagues was Green River with a 1-3 record. The Sunnyside minor leaguers finished their 2002 season by failing to win a single game during the week.
The double elimination meet started Monday with Northern Heights playing Green River and Helper taking on Price National. The games in this classification will continue until Thursday and possibly Friday with all games being played on the two Northern Heights diamonds at the Toy Atwood Complex in North Price.
The major league round robin will be completed Wednesday after games Monday and Tuesday at Sunnyside, Helper and Northern Heights. The results will seed six teams into the single elimination tournament which will start Monday, July 22, at either the Sunnyside or Northern Heights field, depending upon the outcome of the final results.
The winner of next week’s tournament will qualify for the final WBBA tournament which is often referred to as the little world series of WBBA. This tournament will begin August 5 at the Central City diamonds in Salt Lake City.
