Have you ever had an idea to change one thing in your yard and then the project never ended? The original idea and project leads to another, and then another and another and it seems as though it will go on forever. This is the experience of Bob and Darlene Frandsen, who live in Price.
The difference is that the Frandsen’s project finally did end, some nine months after it began. They took a basic high maintenance backyard of shrubs, lawn and flowers that required a lot of time and water and with the help of Generations Landscaping, transformed it into a showpiece.
The Frandsens, both retired, watched as their traditional backyard changed and grew and developed one project step at a time. They worked extensively with Jeff Warix, owner of Generations Landscaping.
“We had a couple ideas we needed help with,” said Darlene. “Jeff and the crew at Generations were wonderful and spent hours with us going over ideas, blueprints and drawings.”
Warix, who runs the family business explained that they try to fit the request for their services within an overall landscaping strategy.
“We really stress shade,” said Warix, “our philosophy is to expand the living area into the outside and in order to do this we need to erect artificial shade in a creative way.”
The Frandsens certainly expanded their living area into their backyard. Once all lawn and shrubs, that took a lot of work and water, the yard is now a beautiful, well designed area that includes shade from a large pergola, a gazebo, and a covered walkway into the back portion of their property. The covered areas provide both beauty and protection from the sun.

Each item in their yard was carefully created one piece at a time from quality redwood, explained Darlene, as she sat on a comfortable bench talking about how the new yard has made a big difference in their lives.
“We use it so much more now, and this time of year we sit out here in the evenings after it cools off and enjoy the lights from the waterfall and gazebo.”
When building and designing the Frandsen yard, Generations Landscaping spent many hours visiting with Darlene and Bob.
“Regardless of the request, we try to encourage discussions with the homeowner to begin to build an overall picture of what they would like to do in the long term, and then help them create a vision for their property,” explained Warix.
This is done in a variety of methods to help property owners discover what their land can look like and how the property’s use can be improved.
“Their desire might be to build a private fence or install a waterfall or pond, like it was in Frandsen’s case,” he said, “so a complete assessment was made before we began any projects.”
He pointed out that they wanted the project to fit in with the Frandsen’s life-style.
“It is essential to provide the greatest impact to the area for the investment, as well as fulfilling the owner’s desires,” explained Warix.
In the Frandsen’s case they wanted a maintenance-free backyard where they could escape and enjoy the Utah outdoors. Just picture the couple sitting in their gazebo on the cool evening, watching water gently flow over the beautiful waterfalls into the pond. The beauty of the redwood sends out an outdoor aroma while they marvel at the yards transformation.
“Its truly a paradise,” says Darlene. “We are very satisfied.”
