The College of Eastern Utah baseball team has really been picking up the pace as of lately. The Eagles displayed their talent before a hometown crowd last weekend as the team hosted the Utah State University club team. The Eagles dominated the field by sweeping the Aggies 3-0.
The weekend kicked off with the Eagles defeating the Aggies 11-2. The victory would lead to good things to come for the Eagles who stepped out onto the field Saturday filled with confidence and determination.
The first of the double header games found the Eagles ahead early in the game. The momentum seemed to be in favor of the Eagles, ending in CEU’s 13-3 victory.
The Eagles took advantage of the struggling Aggie team to send USU home without a victory. The Eagles defeated the Aggies 15-5 in the last game of the series.
Eagles catcher Derek Waddoups had a tremendous series for CEU, with several big hits. Along with Waddoups, Eric Turnbow and Gary Larson also had a good series at bat against the Aggies.
The Eagles season started off rocky for the team, but as the year progresses, so does the Eagles. The team has overcome several obstacles and find themselves on a winning streak.
The hitting and pitching have improved since the beginning of the season, and this has allowed the team to become a solid competitor in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Currently, the Eagles SWAC record is only 5-11, but these numbers should improve quickly, with the teams new burst of energy.
The Eagles will once again play at home this weekend as the Bruins from Salt Lake Community College visit. Although the Bruins have quite a large lead in the SWAC standing over the Eagles, with a 13-7 record, the Eagles have the talent to take down SLCC.
The Eagles will once again fly high as the games get underway at 1:00 p.m Friday afternoon and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bruins better come equipped to battle the fight at bat in which the Eagles have been victorious at in recent weeks.
