For the Carbon High Lady Dinos, Thursday night was just one of those “on” nights, as they defeated the Delta Rabbits for the second time this season, 60-41.
Earlier this season, when Delta visited Price to open region play, they returned home with a loss of 63-34. One would think that maybe Delta would review the game before the re-match to try and stop Carbon’s defense. Well, if they did, they didn’t do a very good job of it, as the Lady Dinos stepped up to their defense, only to break it, out scoring the Lady Rabbits 21-6 in the first quarter. If this scenario looks familiar, it should because this is how previous games this season have gone for Carbon.
The second quarter was a little better for the Rabbits, as Delta allowed Carbon to score only 14 points, and coming up with eight of their own. But to catch up to the Dinos, they would have had to score quite a bit more, and they realized that going into the locker room at the half with a score of 35-14.
“Defensively, Delta was our best game,” stated head coach Bruce Bean. “The first half was just awesome; we got out there and stepped up and played. The second half? Well we just kind of cruised through it.”
After the half, Delta came back to play better defense and offense, this time outscoring the Lady Dinos 14-9.
But even with a 16 point lead going into the fourth quarter, the starting five returned to the floor to secure their lead, soon sending in the JV squad to take over, and once again, putting in more points than Delta, 16-13.
The girls went to Delta ready to play, executing very well, with full intentions of getting the job done. And that is exactly what happened.
This win improved Carbon’s record to 15-2 overall, and 5-0 in region.
The next game will be Tuesday night at home against Emery, who is 6-10 overall, and 1-4 in Region 8.
