Eralia Santistevan


HELPER/TOOELE – Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend, Eralia Santistevan, age 75, passed away Jan. 28, 2002 in the Tooele Valley Hospital.
She was born Feb. 5, 1926 in Monte Vista, Colo. to Marcial and Agueda Marquez Lopez. She married Henry Santistevan. He died Feb. 15, 1994.
Member of the Catholic Church. Resident of Carbon County since 1950. Eralia loved singing and dancing.
Survived by son, Joe H. (Tessie) Santistevan, Tooele; grandson, Deon (Paula) Santistevan, South Weber; four great -grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; husband; infant son; grandson; Dino Santistevan; brothers, Joe and Trinidad Lopez; sister, Flavia Martinez; and dear friend Joe Martinez.
The family acknowledges with gratitude the doctors, nurses, therapists and aids at Tooele Valley Hospital, Tooele Valley Nursing Home and Rocky Mountain Care in West Valley.
Funeral Mass, Saturday, Feb. 2, 10 a.m. St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service Friday evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper, under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.



Marvin Curtis


ALEDO, Texas – Marvin L. Curtis, 61, a security guard, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at his home in Aledo, Texas.
Marvin L. Curtis was born March 19, 1940 in Price to Max and Besta Pettersson Curtis. He was a graduate of Carbon High School in 1958. Married Irene Mair on Aug. 16, 1962 in Germany.
Marvin was a veteran of Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service with the grade of E-7, sergeant, First Class. He worked for Lockheed Aircraft for the past 21 years. Marvin had been a resident of Aledo for the past 12 years, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Weatherford.
Marvin Curtis is survived by wife, Irene M. Curtis, Aledo, Texas; son, Max Curtis and wife, Tamara, Fort Worth; brothers, Verl Curtis, Grand Junction, Colo.; Earl Curtis, West Valley City; Leon Curtis, Fort Worth; Nicholas Curtis, Salt Lake City; Bill Curtis, Price; sisters, Karen Angotti, Costa Mesa, Calif.; Wilma Atwood, Price; grandchildren, Kenneth Mathe, Jennifer Mathe, Michael Curtis, and Lauren Curtis, all of Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 31, 10 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1802 S. Bowie Drive, Weatherford. The family will greet relatives and friends Wednesday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., at White’s Funeral Home. Burial, Annetta Cemetery.



Louis Canchola


HELPER – Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and longtime friend, Louis Canchola, age 105, passed away Jan. 29, 2002 at his daughter’s home in West Valley.
He was born Aug. 19, 1896 in Penjamo, Mexico to Feliciano and Trinidad Granados Canchola. He married Jesus Madrigal, October 1942 in Price.
Member of the Spanish Assembly of God Church. Longtime resident of Carbon County where he worked for various coal mines and the D&RGW for many years. Louis retired from the Utah State Department of Health. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his home.
Survived by son, Fidel O. (Christina) Sanchez, Spring Glen; daughters, Jenny Sandoval, Seattle, Wash. and Irene (Billy) Trujillo, West Valley. Also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by three grandchildren.
Funeral service Saturday Feb. 2, 1 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.



Gene Cantrell


EAST CARBON – Gene R. Cantrell, age 62, passed away Jan. 29, 2002 at his home in East Carbon surrounded by his family.
He was born April 1, 1939 in Sikeston, Mo., to Newt and Mattie Simminoe Cantrell. He married Barbara Hill Oct. 27, 1960 in New Madrid, Mo., later divorced.
He worked in the oil field and drove truck in Wyoming. He spent a large part of his life as a farmer in Arizona. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed fishing, hunting and treasure hunting with his metal detector. He was an excellent artist and loved to tinker in the house and yard.
He is survived by children, Kim and Kelvey Shaff, East Carbon; Pam and Bill Nipper, Wyoming; Allen Cantrell, also of Wyoming; grandchildren, Josh, Christa, Megan, Joe, Matt, Trina and Cody. Also survived by two brothers and two sisters.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
